Team Captains (for the 25k Relay)

Team Captain Responsibilities: Meet With Your Team: Select a place for your entire team to meet as early as possible on race day. Communication within your team is important before, during and after the event.

Selecting The Captain: The Team Captain should be a hardworking take charge person. Generally, the captain will be the person that starts up the team. If several of you put the team together you may have to vote or flip a coin to decide who is the captain. Regardless of how the captain is selected all team members should coordinate and work with the captain to make this a great memorable experience. All members should carefully review this entire website. Make sure when each one of you registers separately the entire team uses the same Captain’s Name so we can match the team up for number bib assignments, tracking and the Yearbook.

You are THE CAPTAIN and Team Coordinator. Captains are responsible for relaying all information to your team. Teams consist of five (5) runners. Each runner will run on only one team and will go only one leg. If a person participates for two teams both teams will be disqualified.

Putting Your Team Together. Make sure you have selected your team with particular attention to the division that you want to participate. Make sure the entire team has submitted their registration as early as possible to avoid higher entry fees. Stress the importance that all members list the same “team captain” and “ team name” and all info is correct on the application. In case of problems we will contact the captain.

Problems After Registration: Call the hotline below as early as possible. In the last week prior to the race, if a problem still exists take care of it at the Packet Pickup on Sat (28 May 2011) before the race. At last resort we will take care of as many changes as possible at 6:30 AM on the day of the event. This should be your last option as this could delay your start significantly. Early Arrival: All team captains should arrive at 7AM at the event to make sure no problems exist. Make sure you know your designated area.

Meet With Your Team: Select a place for your entire team to meet as early as possible of race day. Communications within your team is important before, during and after the event.
 
Alternates: In the event a team member can not run for any reason alternates are allowed. See Alternate Runners link for more details.

Floating Alternates: On race day, alternates that end up without a team may team-up with other alternates at the scorer’s table. See Alternate Runners link for more details.

Identify Your Team: The team should wear similar identifying running apparel such as similar caps, scarves, tops, colors, etc. This is not mandatory but it will make it easier for your team to quickly find each other at the event, for the handoffs, tracking and for the awards.

Electronic Chip: Must make sure all runners wear the electronic chip to score their individual times and positions.
Turn In Your Electronic Chips: It is the captain’s responsibility that all chips be turned in at the finish to a Free Spirits Track Club Inc. representative. Do not worry this will be done in a quick and orderly fashion.

All Chips are registered to individual participants. Please turn them in to avoid having to buy them.

Awards: Medals will be handed out to the Captains at the Awards Ceremony. The medals of the first three teams in each division will be Gold, Silver and Bronze. All other finishers will receive the American Hero Relay Memorial medals. The entire team is encouraged to participate.

Buy Pics: If you desire, individual and group pictures will also be taken and available for purchase. The Lady Heat Rays will be available to take pics with the athletes or the audience.
Keep Your Bibs: All members of each team eligible for awards are subject to verification by race officials prior to the awards ceremony. Please have your race bib with you at all times.

Medical and First Aid Personnel will be stationed at the north end of the stadium outside the large doors and in the passage way under the eastside of the stadium for your protection.
