About the Event

What: First long distance relays with handoffs in front of audience, cheerleaders, singers and bands. You will be able to track your team with The American Hero 25k Relay Yearbook. There are Four Categories:

Category 1, 29 Divisions: This is the “Running 25k Relay Divisions.” 5 people make up each team. Each person runs 5k.

Category 2, 14 Divisions: This is the “Run/Walk Solo Divisions.” Each person runs or walks 5k. This is not a relay. The two Race Walker Divisions must adhere to USATF Race Rules of Race Walking.

Category 3, 10 Divisions: This is the “Run 25k Solo Divisions.” Each person runs the entire 25k, 5 loops of 5k each.
This is not part of the relay.

Category 4, 2 Divisions: This is the “Kids 10 and Under Divisions” Each kid will walk or run one quarter mile (one lap inside the stadium). THE EVENT IS FREE. The admission fee is $15 for the anyone 10 or older that does not participate in an event. All participating kids will get the large American Hero commemorative ribbon, The American Hero 25k Relay Yearbook with their name in it (if they register on time) and the Goody Bag.

APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
The Free Spirits Track Club Inc. a Texas non-profit IRS 501 c 3 Public Charity established to promote running and athletic events, to raise scholarships for cancer survivors, other diseases, blindness, and child abuse and to honor “Our Local American Heroes.” Click button on the right “Scholarships” for more info.

Goal: Our goal is to get the entire community to recognize our many local heroes and to help our brave young survivors further their education through your entry fees, donations and admission donations by promoting running and athletic events.

The start, finish and all handoff are in front of the audience (in Alamo Stadium) for easy viewing and tracking in the Yearbook ($10 Yearbook and Programs free to all the audience and registrants)

Relay Tracking: Large clock on the field and leading teams announced over the PA and posted in large letters near the track. The Audience will also have the American Hero 25K Relay Yearbook with all runners, walkers and team names for easy tracking.

Music and entertainment will be provided.
Jay Tope of Sasports.com and sports voice of San Antonio will be our MC and DJ. Kat Cooper, fantastic local singer, will sing our National Anthem, Network for Your Artists, producing some of the finest musicians in San Antonio, will provide the stage, sound system, and additional entertainment. Our own famous Skyler “Hanna Montana” will thrill the audience. The kids will love her and Parties to Go by Jo who will also entertain and mingle in the audience with their costumed “princesses and heroes.”

Nationally recognized Mariachi Las Coronelas the best female mariachi singers in the country will amaze the audience. The outstanding Lady Heat Rays are the Event's Official cheerleaders and will conduct the American Hero Cheerleading Competition during the running events.


 



Donny Edwards and Fever Band will perform toward the end of the relays. Donny is a two-time world champion Elvis Tribute Artist. He has entertained millions all over the world to rave reviews. Special thanks to Donny’s beautiful wife, Donna, and his manager, Steve Fountain, whose efforts and hard work insure every performance is outstanding.

Fever is the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Band in the country. Its outstanding performers include Cheyenne Geary, Vocals, Stephanie Nadolny, Vocals, and Courtney Guyon, Vocals, Keyboards and Saxophone, Marcus Hurst, Drums, John Cundiff, Bass, and Randy Stockum, Lead Guitar.

PRIZES will be "Hit" into the audience throughout the event. Tennis balls will be hit into the audience every 15 to 30 minutes that can be redeemed for cash and other prizes!

Awards Ceremony: American Hero Awards, Scholarship Awards and Race Awards

American Hero Voting - The public will nominate and vote over the internet for their “Hero” of their choice.

  • Police/Fire
  • Teacher
  • Corporate/Civil Service

$500 Scholarships:
For Cancer Survivor (and other diseases)
Funds raised will go toward high school and GED graduates who qualify, apply and are selected for $500 scholarships.
